draw is always on the look out for upcoming architecture and design events, and in May, New York City offers a bevy of activities for the design-minded!

This week, from May 10-20, NYCxDESIGN celebrates the 10th anniversary of their annual design festival, showcasing design throughout New York City. With lots of events, including guided and self-guided journeys, open studio crawls, design fairs, open design showrooms, curated itineraries, and student spotlights at design schools throughout the city, there is much to see and do.

One of the headline events of NYCxDESIGN is the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) with WantedDesign. ICFF and the co-located WantedDesign Manhattan “bring together over 300 established and emerging design brands from more than 25 countries.”

With a line up of panel sessions, keynote presentations, and conversations led by industry leaders, this is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the latest in contemporary furniture and design.

Taking place from May 15-17 at the Javits Center in Manhattan, this is primarily a trade-member event. However, Tuesday, May 17th is “Public” day where tickets are available to members of the general public.

Finally, we’re big fans of the Architecture & Design Film Festival (ADFF), which hosts architecture & design film festivals in New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Vancouver, and Washington, DC.

This week, ADFF is participating in the following two NYCxDESIGN events:

On May 12, they will be hosting “ADFF at Industry City, with panel discussions, film screenings, and al fresco food and beverages in Industry City’s Courtyard #5/6. What a great place to enjoy a conversation and films about public art!

Then on May 13th, ADFF will be presenting the New York theatrical release of MAU, a feature length documentary about the design visionary Bruce Mau, at The Angelika NewYork. The May 13 and 14 shows will include Q and A sessions with Bruce Mau, Bisi Williams and filmmakers Jono & Benji Bergman.

Check out the ADFF link above for event info, scheduling, and tickets, as well as other ADFF events.

Hope you are able to join in on the wonderful NYC design offerings this May…and who knows, maybe we’ll run into each other!
